The right to education is a fundamental right in India. Our constitution has made sure that education should be available to all the children of India. Unfortunately, it is still a luxury for many children in our country. This is mostly visible in the hinterlands, where educational resources are scarce and teachers are not available as compared to the larger metropolises. Education in these regions is affected by a variety of factors, such as poor infrastructure & road conditions, unsanitary washrooms, etc. Moreover, worsening weather, like heavy rainfalls, completely cut off the school from these children during their academic year. This is where the idea of “Shiksha Rakshak” was born at Sadguru Foundation.
Last year, our volunteers and other members visited one such government primary school in a rural area near Mumbai. The situation at the school was heartbreaking, as it did not have proper infrastructure. Sadguru Foundation renovated the school, rebuilt a hygienic washroom, and provided stationery to the schoolchildren. Also, our volunteers encouraged parents to support their children’s education journey so that they can achieve their dreams and give even better opportunities to future generations.
