India has slowly but steadily improved its education system since independence. But despite the improvements, there are still major challenges to be overcome. One of the most prominent ones is the cycle of poverty, which keeps generations away from realising their true potential and achieving their dreams. Another barrier is the urban-rural divide present in the educational opportunities and resources available to students in India. This barrier prevents students from rural India from accessing educational opportunities as compared to their urban peers.
Education is a tool that can not only alleviate poverty but also help realise the dreams of the future generations of India. This is a crucial tool that can be used to create various opportunities for the millions of children in India. These children are the ones who will shape the future of our country, so providing them with better jobs in their lives is critical. This is why education is a top priority for Sadguru Foundation, and as such, we have made our best efforts to provide the same for all the children.
Our mission is to see every child in India reach its full potential. To that extent, we are running different initiatives to make sure every child in need of education support gets a proper education environment. Below are some of our recent initiatives:
Providing education to children in need comes with many challenges.
One of the major ones is not being able to access the tools through which education is
provided to children. This is where our NGO strives to make a difference. We run
distribution campaigns for children coming from various backgrounds. The distribution
consists of things that are necessary for the children to access education. It can be
stationery, school bags or uniforms, basic transport needs such as bicycles, or anything
that helps close the gap between them and quality education.
Our distribution drives also have an important nuance. We make sure not only to provide
these things but also to make sure that these essential educational tools reach where
the children need them. Therefore, we try to reach rural areas as well. Our volunteers
play an important role in this aspect, as they make sure that not only do these children
get tools for education, but they are also able to use them to the best of their
ability.
A safe place to study is a crucial element in the journey of education. This is the part where fundamental education takes place. But for the thousands of children residing in the rural areas of our country, this is a major challenge. The weather can worsen the condition of these rural schools, which directly affects the children’s education. Therefore, our NGO stands as one such education charity organization that looks after these crucial parts of the education system. Sadguru Foundation looks after these schools in the hinterlands of our country and makes sure that they can provide a safe place for their children. One such initiative was the rebuilding of a rural school near Mumbai. We assisted in the rebuilding of the infrastructure of this school and made sure their children did not miss school anymore.
Our School on Wheels initiative was born out of a major concern.
Every day, India is bringing millions of people out of poverty. But thousands still are
unable to provide basic needs to their children in various cities. These areas include
slums, the outskirts of the city, or people living on a daily wage. This is where a
novel idea was born, which is to provide education help to children as close to their
residence as possible.
Therefore, we started this initiative with a school bus, provided it with essential
stationery for the children, and began reaching out to areas in the city that required
major attention. Our teacher makes sure to provide holistic growth for the children in
need. For example, they explain the importance of health, confidence-building exercises,
or mental health support systems. Our efforts are getting a positive response from the
children and their parents, and we are slowly but surely making a difference in the
lives of these children in need.
One of the major ways poverty can hinder education is through malnutrition. Children who are not able to get essential nutritional food during their growing years are also not able to get a proper education. This happens for various reasons. Malnutrition can cause stunting and various other health issues, which ultimately affect the capabilities of children. Therefore, we started our food initiatives to make sure that these children can get essential nutritional food so that they are properly able to educate themselves. This is the reason our NGO carries out food drives for needy children in different areas of the city.
